The Real Deal

The Standard American Diet (SAD) is commonly referred to as SAD for a reason and not just because that’s the acronym. Over the past 50 years, processed and packaged foods have become a normal part of our eating-lives and have resulted in some SAD consequences like obesity and chronic disease. A major reason for this diet transformation is the “eating on the go” phenomenon. When you’re in a hurry, it’s nearly impossible to consider taking the time to prepare a healthy, balanced meal. Picking up and scarfing down something off the shelf seems like the easiest option. But is it the best option? Of course, in my opinion, it’s not.
Through this blog, I hope to provide tips and ideas on how to incorporate real food into our busy schedules. Real food includes whole grains, a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables, tasty protein sources like legumes and fish, fresh herbs and seasonings, and other delights of the sort. And let’s get real here, life includes some desserts and cocktails, so I’ll be posting fresh ideas on these diet aspects as well! We’ll talk to inspiring health professionals to find out how they feel about food, and we’ll go to wellness-related events and markets to explore the latest and greatest. I hope this blog serves as a fun place to express ideas and create new thoughts about how eating and health go hand in hand.
Stay tuned!
